Best of the blogs | Debate has been raging on the ClearlySo social business blog. Here's what we've been talking about this week. - How one imaginative social entrepreneur used social media to put her businesses onto a whole different platform.
- We meet Ateba Crocker, who went from a life in prostitution to become a leading campaigner against the curse of human trafficking. With endorsements from a host of celebrities including SJP herself, her campaign has attracted world wide attention. Read how she did it here.
- Rodney Schwartz runs his eye on some of the most prominent suggestions about how the government should best make use of the Big Society Bank.

| | Photo finish - the ClearlySo photography competition
| Since announcing a new photography competition for social enterprises in our last newsletter, interest has been brisk. For the businesses involved it's a great opportunity to find themselves a new audience. For everyone else, it's a fantastic snapshot of the wonderful work taking place across the social enterprise sector. Further details can be found here. However let's start off with a few pointers. We're looking for fun, imaginative and informative photographs that show social enterprise at its best. It could be a picture of your team, your products or perhaps an image of the people your organisation helps day in day out. As long as it catches our eye and sums up the work you do, we want to see it. The winning photo will receive a free ticket to the forthcoming Social Business Conference. Meanwhile all other entries will find a place on our online gallery dedicated to social enterprise. We'll also cherry pick the best to adorn the office walls her at ClearlySo Towers. Pictures should be sent digitally at as high a resolution as possible. Ideally we want something that can fit onto an A1 or A2 poster. However, if that's not possible, just choose the highest setting possible on your camera. To enter or for more information, contact me by email here or call 020 7490 9527. We look forward to seeing what you come up with. |
Social investment evening sparks huge interest | We have literally been blown away by the scale of the response to our upcoming social investment evening. The event, run in association with Coutts, offers social entrepreneurs the opportunity to present a short pitch before an audience of highly motivated investors. The event has already been many times oversubscribed, so unfortunately we have not been able to provide a place for everyone who applied. Our sincere apologies for those who could not find a place on this occasion, but fear not, there will be many more opportunities on their way soon, so watch this space. |
Last chance for early birds
| With the Social Business Conference looming ever larger, this is almost the final call for early bird discounts. Anyone who purchases a ticket for the event before the end of August can save £68 on the cost of a full price ticket, meaning you pay just £102. The social Business conference represents an ideal opportunity for anyone involved with social business and enterprise to meet, network and take advanrage of some high quality expert advice. Among those speaking at the event this year will be Dai Powell of HCT Group and Barry Coleman of Riders fo Health. | The ever expanding population of the UK presents a pressing problem, not just from an economic, but also from an environmental perspective. That's where Bioregional Quintain Ltd comes into its own. As a builder of eco homes the company has created a number of sustainable residential communities that offer a glimpse at how a low carbon future might look. Perhaps its most high profile project to date has been 'Bedzed' village in Wallingdon in south London. With over half of all materials sourced from within 35 miles and using energy generated through solar panels on the roof, the aim of the community is to be as carbon neutral as possible. Following the success of Bedzed the company now plans to create a number of similar communities across the country. |
