Best of the blogs | Here are some highlights from our blog. |
Time to Pitch | We've got just two days to go before the deadline for applications to our next social investment speed dating event, or Clearly Social Speed Dating, as we seem to be calling it. This is your last chance to find that special social investment match. All you have to do is sit down face to face with a series of interested investors and explain why they should hand over their hard earned cash to you and your business. It's a bit like Dragons Den, but at least we offer free booze afterwards. Places are limited and demand is high. We only have room for 10-12 social businesses to match the number of investors, so to be involved in what could be an excellent chance to secure investment, you need to apply now. |
Your Opinion Counts | We asked, you talked, we listened... possibly. We'll soon be running all sorts of fantabulous workshops to help your businesses succeed. Before we do so, though, we want to know what it is you need. Is it advice on financial management, securing investment, or effective PR and marketing? Follow this link to complete our short survey now. |
Social Business of the Week: Do the Green Thing | This week, ClearlySo member, The Green Thing launched a brand new campaign to help reduce the amount of unwanted clothing we send to landfill. Saved aims to transform drab, unwanted old T-Shirts into instant fashion icons. All its customers need to do is send unwanted garments in - they wash them and stitch on a 'saved message' to create a fun, fashionable garment that people want to wear.
We think this idea is rather spiffing, although we have to admit a slight clash of interests as our CEO Rodney Schwartz is also Green Thing Chairman. Even so, with approximately a billion tonnes of perfectly serviceable clothing heading to the dump every year, imaginative ideas such as this are crucial to changing behaviour. |
| | News From the Frontline | Every week, we're going to champion the excellent work being done in the social enterprise sector. Here are just some of the fine social businesses making waves. - Cool2Care: This excellent social enterprise provides skilled, trained care workers to families with disabled children across the UK. The company certainly went down a storm at our conference. Check out CEO Phil Conway's pitch at our conference.
- Barchester Green Investments is one of the longest established specialists in green and ethical investments around. They recently caused a stink when they outed the heroes and villains of ethical investment. Read the fallout here.
- OikoCredit, has been providing loans, guarantees and investment capital to microfinance institutions, cooperatives, fair trade companies and other social businesses since the seventies. Last week, at a glitzy launch, they announced a strengthening of their activities in the Uk.
If you're a social business with a story to tell, let us know. If we like it we'll give it a plug here. |
Videos, Photos and Stuff | Missed out on our Social Business Conference? Never fear, thanks to the wonders of technology - or some chap with a camera - we can bring it to you. Head to our YouTube channel for highlights including an example of our quick pitches, the social surgery, (including this full eight minute pitch) and some vox pops in which we line people against the wall and make them say nice things about us. For those who are still suspicious of this new moving pictures phenomenon, try out our Facebook page where you can see the highlights in glorious still life. | Any Other Business | Before we go, here's a round up of other news affecting the social business and enterprise sector. |
That's all for now. Have a great month. In the mean time, do check up on www.clearlyso.com for all the latest developments in the world of social enterprise. Sincerely, Tom Cropper ClearlySo |
