Hello and welcome to RISE's April newsletter, an especially warm welcome to all our new subscribers from Voice11.

The RISE team was out in force at Voice11; the UK’s biggest social enterprise event. We had a great time at the O2 in London and enjoyed meeting so many people who are passionate about social enterprise, as well as celebrating the work that we've been doing and our plans for the future; watch this space for an announcement about the new RISE membership package and a new series of networking events which will leave you hungry for more!
With over 130 exhibitors and 1,300 delegates, Voice11 - organised by the
Social Enterprise Coalition - was the largest yet. A number of high profile Senior Cabinet Ministers, Government Ministers and MPs were also in attendance, showing that social enterprise is still high on the political agenda. Health Secretary Andrew Lansley used Voice to announce that there will be an additional £10 million investment in the Social Enterprise Investment Fund to help deliver the Right to Provide scheme.

One-to-one advice clinics for social enterprises If you run a social enterprise or established community organisation and need good advice to develop your ideas further, here is an opportunity for a free no-obligation one-to-one chat with a qualified adviser. Appointments can be booked for one hour between 9am and 4pm.
Dates for these helpful sessions have now been set until March 2012:
• Clinics in Plymouth will take place on the 1st Wednesday of each month
• Clinics in Torbay will take place on the 2nd Wednesday of each month

Light Box Project are a Bristol social enterprise who run art workshops which arm participants with techniques for looking at life with a new perspective. Clients are referred by GPs or mental health charities such as Mind and Second Step Housing, and female ex-offenders also attend as part of a rehabilitation programme.

Hele Hub is a fast-growing Torquay-based social enterprise that’s dedicated to helping local people learn the skills they need to achieve an improved quality of life.
Read about how much of Hele Hub’s burgeoning success is due to the help of organisations including its primary funder Devon County Council and Business Link, which is delivered across the South West by Peninsula.
The Store is the Core Programme is a regional programme designed to support the village and community retail sector across the South West. Funded by the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) and managed by Community First; the programme aims to support 150 village and community retailers over the next three years.
Store is the Core are seeking to commission:
• Third party ‘Mentors’ to deliver one-to-one community engagement and funding advice to retailers throughout the South West.
• Third party ‘Retail Advisers’ to deliver specialist retail and business advice to independent and community retailers throughout the South West.
• Third party to assist programme management deliver internal training sessions and develop and deliver retail training package for retailers throughout the South West.

2nd Chance Project’s programmes are designed to give you the best toolkit available to work with challenging young people both in a group setting and in one to one situations. One day training courses are at a ‘short term’ special introductory offer of only £85 per person. Book now as places are limited.
