A global competition to launch the next generation of social enterprise


 

Calling all Entrepreneurs!

The Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC) provides aspiring entrepreneurs with mentoring, exposure, and $50,000 in prizes to transform their ideas into businesses that will have positive real world impact. This unique competition has been run by students, for students since 1999, and connects promising social enterprises to the social impact investment community. In 2011, GSVC received nearly 900 entries from over 308 universities and 36 countries.  Previous years’ finalists include Husk Power, Revolution Foods, and d.light design.

**The GSVC welcomes two new Outreach Partner schools in Africa – University of Cape Town, South Africa, and Strathmore University, Kenya.  Visit gsvc.org for details.
 

Entrant Requirements

  • Each entrant team must include a graduate student (current or recent graduate within two years from the date the plan is first submitted) from any masters-level or post-graduate higher education program in any area of study in the world.
  • Operating companies are welcome to enter, though they must be less than 3 years old (as measured by first revenue or first patent issued).
  • Ventures must be financially sustainable (both non profit and for profit are accepted, but it must be self-sufficient on its earned revenue).
  • Ventures must have a quantifiable social and/or environmental bottom line incorporated into its mission and practices. 
  • Ventures can enter the competition twice – in fact last year’s winner, NextDrop, was a second time entrant.
