Save for a car? Instead, Maya Mason, a high school junior from Port Jefferson, New Jersey, raised $1,900 to fund education scholarships to university level girls in Bangladesh through Grameen Shikkha, a Grameen Foundation-supported program. Donations like Maya’s are awarded in monthly installments over five year periods to bright, deserving students in rural Bangladesh. Maya says she realizes she is fortunate to have a great education. “It is just expected that people go to college, but many people are not as fortunate in other countries." The program connects private individuals and companies with microfinance institutions and other organizations serving the poor. The new website features an interactive map of our worldwide volunteer projects and stories from past volunteers.  “We’re incredibly grateful to volunteers Neelu Bhuman and Wendy Williams who built the site,” said Bankers with Borders Director Shannon Maynard.  “We want prospective volunteers, corporate partners, and microfinance partners to have all the information they need to get involved.” Visit http://bankerswithoutborders.com to learn more. Back to top Grameen Foundation wins $100,000 Grant for “Fresh Idea” Grameen Foundation won a $100,000 grant for its mobile money solution at the Marketplace on Innovative Financial Solutions for Development in March. The event, hosted this year in Paris, recognizes “fresh ideas” for using innovative financing tools to solve development challenges. Our holistic approach includes a back-end microfinance portfolio management system, an integrated front-end mobile money solution, and a business process optimization. We will work with KEEF, a Kenyan MFI, to implement this new approach for integrating technology systems and processes. Our submission, along with four others, was selected for the top prize out of 800 projects worldwide.
