Presenting Social Innovation Europe
Dear SIX community:
We’re writing to let you know about the latest exciting project developing at the
Social Innovation eXchange. SIX has been chosen by the European Commission’s DG Enterprise to lead a consortium of partners—the
Danish Technological Institute and
Euclid Network—to deliver the Social Innovation Europe Initiative. We think that this initiative is going to have a big impact in Europe, and around the world. We have already begun hosting an events series and developing a series of reports which include policy recommendations for new kinds of support for social innovation, from new kinds of finance to new support for scaling and evaluation.
Very soon we’ll be launching a
new website that will bring together the latest events, ideas, strategies and innovators working in Europe today. Whether you live in China or Canada, Brazil or Belarus, we recommend you pay the SIE initiative some attention.
Social Innovation Europe Online
www.socialinnovationeurope.eu - launching soon - will be a place where innovators across the continent can meet to discuss, analyze and replicate the latest innovations, strategies, tools and methods being used across Europe. It will feature case studies of leading innovations, reports from thought leaders, interviews, news, event reviews and a constantly expanding directory of the organizations that are driving social innovation in Europe today. We will filter some of the most interesting and most relevant social innovation resource for you. As a member of the SIX network, your contributions to the website are both welcome and sought-after; tell Europe what the world knows about social innovation by registering
here!
Funding Social Innovation in Europe
Social innovation needs a new kind of funding. The initiative’s first report is asking what a new funding model might look like in a European context. Our aim is to develop concrete recommendations for a family of funds (or funding packages) for social innovation in Europe, with proposals for action and implementation and suggestions of how finance for social innovation can be integrated into existing structures and funds. We want to learn from examples of social innovation funding from beyond Europe. Have your say here;
contribute to our growing list of social innovation funders worldwide.
Bringing the Social Innovation Community together
The official launch of the Social Innovation Europe Initiative was held
this March in Brussels. With the endorsement of European Commissioners Andor and Geoghehan-Quinn and the support of President Barroso, the initiative has made a strong start. The event brought together some of the most engaged innovators in Europe to discuss the place of social innovation in the workplace, in cities and among ageing populations, as well as the ecology of finance for social innovations, the best metrics for evaluating innovation and the best methods for scaling up successes. The growing social innovation community that met at this event will reconvene in Poland later this year and in Denmark next year to strengthen their networks and expand the horizons of the field of European social innovation.
Many of the people and activities of SIE and SIX will be connected, and we want to ensure that they stay this way, as mutually supporting sister networks. Europe can learn a lot form the world, and the world can learn a lot form Europe, so we should ensure these endevours remain interlinked for maximum capacity.
