SVA and Social Traders, on behalf of the International Social Enterprise Consortium, co-hosted the second Social Enterprise World Forum (SEWF) in Melbourne on 6-8 October 2009. The funding will be used to support a number of SVA’s existing successful Social Enterprise Hubs (Hubs). This Hubs model is currently operating in Parramatta, Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich and the ACT, offering business support services that are otherwise inaccessible and unaffordable to social enterprises. These services include tailored advice in business planning, assistance in exploring and developing new market opportunities and access to professional resources in areas such as legal, accounting, marketing, HR or IT support. The SVA Hubs model has already helped dozens of social enterprises change the lives of many Australians marginalised and excluded from the workforce. Pictured is Jan Owen AM, executive director of SVA with Saba Abraham, founder of Mu’ooz Eritrean restaurant and Queensland Hub participant. Read more about the Social Enterprise Hubs . Join hundreds of Australians for the inaugural ‘Strut the Streets’ event and raise funds for the Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME). ‘Strut the Streets’ will become an annual fundraiser for SVA’s venture partner AIME, a program that is giving young Indigenous Australians just like the student pictured, a chance to have a fair go at university. To kick off the annual event, AIME is partnering with the swimwear company ‘budgy smuggler’ to attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest swimwear parade. You can buy a ticket and join the parade, sponsor a participant or simply check out the footage as the event unfolds.
