Investor Spotlight: Charly and Lisa Kleissner & KL Felicitas Foundation

Each month, an impact investor discusses with the GIIN his or her motivations, impact investment strategy, and challenges faced in this growing industry.  This month, we spoke to Dr. Charly Kleissner, a successful Silicon Valley high technology executive who co-founded the KL Felicitas Foundation with his wife, Lisa Kleissner. The Kleissners have invested more than half of the Foundation’s endowment assets in impact investments, and are dedicated to moving the entire endowment to impact investments by the end of 2013. By posting their strategy and portfolio online, the Kleissners aim to show by example that impact investing can effectively drive social change.

New: Impact Investing Profiles of Investors’ Council Members

Short profiles describing the impact investing activities of GIIN Investors’ Council members have been added to the GIIN website.

The GIIN Investors’ Council is a membership group and collaboration forum for leading impact investors around the world. The current 30 members represent a diverse range of institutions – including large-scale family offices, institutional investors, pension funds, specialized banks, targeted impact funds, and private foundations making program- and mission-related investments.

Recap: First full convening of the GIIN Investors’ Council

Last month, members of the GIIN Investors’ Council met for the first time to discuss broad impact investing industry issues – such as impact measurement and lessons from the microfinance industry – and specific strategies, including community bank deposits and trade financing. More than 25 member organizations attended this event, which was held from April 26-28 in Glen Cove, New York.
