Dear friends,
The first week of September always has an air of ‘back to school’ about it. Most of us have returned from our holidays; the number of ‘out of office’ replies are declining; and at ClearlySo, we’ve even had new team photos taken.
What better way to start the new term than with something of a victory for the sector? In a story that you’re now familiar with, Salesforce has bowed to pressure and dropped their bid to trademark the term ‘social enterprise’.
We’ve also just published an in depth case study – as researched by Tom and Melanie from Hot Runnings - about an extraordinary social enterprise running a school in Paraguay.
And to top it all off we’ve got the latest vacancies and events in the social enterprise space.
Enjoy the weekend and the beautiful weather; long may it continue!

Fundacion Paraguay
The San Francisco Organic Farm School – run by Fundación Paraguaya - is located 45kms north of Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay.

At a glance the school looks like any other. However San Francisco (or ‘San Fran’) is unique in Paraguay and perhaps the world.

After mounting pressure from the sector - spearheaded by Social Enterprise UK’s ‘Not In Our Name’ campaign -Salesforce have withdrawn their bid to trademark the term ‘social enterprise’. In this comment piece, we offer our thoughts on what has been a David and Goliath saga over the past two years.
Whilst catching up on some Summer’s reading, Rodney Schwartz found this intriguing article in the Financial Times explaining that some of the major European financial players have decided not to launch any new Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) in light of claims that such flows exacerbate food crises.
Despite sounding like something you’d shout after tripping over the cat on the stairs, more and more social enterprises are going down the BOGOF (‘Buy One Get One Free’) route. In this post, Colleen takes a look at SBC12 sponsor ForestNation’s ‘You Plant One We Plant One’ forestry model.
