Congratulations to 2 of our YEP graduates, Bianca Bailey and Dominique Kinara Williams, for winning places on the Lambeth Brand Piano initiative. This project is aimed at assisting emerging female-run businesses by offering 10 young women the opportunity to attend four  workshops led by four established UK business women. Competition for the places was high so Bianca and Dominique did fantastically well to be selected. We’re looking forward to hearing about the workshops and attending the prize giving event during Enterprise Week. We’ll keep you posted on the date of the event.

Red Ochre Profile

Each month we’re going to let you know what one of our Red Ochre team has been up to. This month we feature:

Robert Foster - co-founder of Red Ochre

Robert has had a busy summer! These are just some of the things he’s been up to:

SFEDI Ambassador – Robert has been appointed a SFEDI Ambassador (Small Firms Development Initiative). Congratulations Robert! He’s been working with the Brixton Market Traders Federation and sits on the advisory board of the Brixton Market Management CIC. Robert said "Market and street trading is a great way to get into enterprise. I'm very happy to be able to give my time and expertise to help develop opportunities for existing and new traders." London Chinese Radio (LCR) have also benefited from Robert’s expertise as he’s been working with the senior management team and other members of the advisory committee on organisational development, financial sustainability and an application for a full FM community broadcast license. Then there’s the Aylesbury Community Enterprise (ACE). Robert is the key trainer and business advisor for this project delivering a social enterprise development project in the Aylesbury Estate. He’s being delivering capacity building training courses and working 1:1 with individuals to develop their business ideas + preparing them for the Aylesbury Arena (a Dragons’ Den-type event coming in November).

Training – It’s been a very busy period of delivering of training – Robert has been all over the country with his laptop, slides and sense of humour to inspire people about procurement, commissioning, tendering, marketing and legal structures. He also ran a very well-received workshop for the Ready to Grow (our capacity building programme for BAMER-led organisations) on marketing. Robert donned his lecturer cap to head off on a mini lecture tour around universities in the East Midlands in association with Bio-Regional and EEDA talking about social enterprises and environmental issues. He’s also talked at another EEDA event on structured support programmes for BAMER communities. And if that wasn’t enough, Robert has also been working on asset transfer issues for a number of clients including DTA and the Venture Capital Fund. Robert continues in his capacity as a national council member for the Institute of Commissioning Professionals. A number of exciting developments around commissioning as a profession are in the pipeline, and he’ll be sharing these as they become public.

Oh, and he did manage to take a couple of weeks off in August to be with his family. He was off swimming, teaching his daughter to cycle, DIY-ing and catching up on all those jobs he generally hasn’t time for.  We think he was quite pleased to get back to work!
