FYI: The Hottest Gift Ever: Data!

"When you do the common things in life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world." George Washington Carver

What is Social Entrepreneurship?

Statement of Faith
You can find other "Market with Meaning" but you definitely want to see "Profit with Purpose".
I personally "Believe in Kingdom Transformation" because I know there is only ONE "Life for Significant".

News on The Edge
Welcome to the Social Edge update!

“Social entrepreneurs recognize the empowering value of sharing information. So if you want to make a difference this holiday season, consider what information you can share, what data you can aggregate, and how you can collaborate.”

Thus writes Jill Finlayson, who is offering us her third Annual Holiday Gift Guide for Social Entrepreneurs. Jill knows personally about the power of knowledge sharing: as Marketing Manager for Social Edge, she launched our Twitter feed a few months ago, only to see it grow to over 220,000 followers in the past few weeks.

Of course, you can still give a “Barcode Scanning for Good” phone app or shoes made in Africa. But since knowledge sharing is the cornerstone of innovation and collaboration, the best gift for this holiday is… data!

Data, “the new platform for change, the intellectual sidewalks” that will help the social entrepreneur of your choice make better decisions and contribute to a better world.

Jonathan Lewis also believes in data to combat global poverty. His new tool: Portfolios of the Poor, a myth-busting must-read book for social entrepreneurs who want to understand How the World’s Poor Live on $2 a Day.

Serial social entrepreneur Anand Shah just returned from the TEDIndia conference and writes about new and powerful development tools, including some leading examples of data-driven emerging opportunities in social enterprise.

Rod Schwartz is always eager to share knowledge around provocative conversations. When he asked aloud where the big success stories in social entrepreneurship could be found, we knew we would ignite a heated debate. Feel free to add more fuel to the fire!

Then join SVT Group’s Sara Olsen and Brett Galimidi as they wonder whether social investments are actually having a positive effect –or just making us feel better about our consumer behavior and philanthropic efforts.

Luckily, D. O may have found the right medicine to counterbalance doubt: kindness.yahoo! And Untangled just discove(RED) a new cool app for his iPhone, one that makes him feel very smug!

Where are the big success stories, the social sector equivalents of Google or Facebook? Will the funding continue to flow to unsustainable, though eminently worthy, social enterprises? Join Rod Schwartz in a provocative conversation.

Amplifying Grassroots Voices
Join Epic Change founder Stacey Monk and her Tanzanian partner Mama Lucy Kamptoni in a conversation about amplifying the voices and impact of remarkable unseen grassroots social innovators across the globe.

Gen-Y: The Social Innovation Generation

What Works in Social Change?
What really works when people are striving for social change? Is social entrepreneurship enough to change the world? Join Scott Sherman, Executive Director of the Transformative Action Institute, in the conversation.

Women in the Social Economy
An excess of testosterone and an absence of diversity have nearly destroyed the western economic system, writes ClearlySo CEO Rod Schwartz. Is it time for a more feminine economy?
