Investor speed dating - two events in May
|
The month began at the Hub in Kings Cross with our fourth investor speed dating event. These have proved immensely successful so far. Already we've helped raise over £100,000 for social businesses. Entrepreneurs have three minutes to pitch their concept to a range of investors. That's no easy task, but as Barry Shiers of Vision 21 discovered it's all part of the attraction. "I can honestly say it was an inspirational experience," he explains. "I have to say the atmosphere created by the team was relaxed and friendly and there was little time for nerves, just a brilliant opportunity to 'sell' your entrepreneurial idea or concept." We had a double dose of investor speed dating this month with another event held as part of the Shine Unconference for social entrepreneurs in London, (see below for more details). Our next speed dating event will be held at the Hub in Kings Cross on 24th June. If you're interested in pitching or investing email Richard Brownsdon at richard.brownsdon@clearlyso.com |
| | Fight night at Shine 2010
| Fists were flying at the Shine Unconference for social entrepreneurs this month - in a metaphorical sense at least - with the spectacular 'Fink' Club. This is Fight Club for the social enterprise sector. Four leading entrepreneurs including ClearlySo's own Rodney 'The Brooklyn Bruiser' Schwartz faced off to defend conflicting opinions in a specially built boxing ring at the heart of the venue. It was certainly quite a spectacle and one Rodney has already discussed in his blog. Elsewhere it was a fantastic opportunity for businesses, entrepreneurs and investors to network in a variety of situations, including the fifth in the series of the ClearlySo investment speed dating events. |
Fresh faces at ClearlySo
| How time flies. It seems barely a moment ago that we were launching ClearlySo at the Skoll World Forum 2009. Now, 14 months and over a thousand new businesses later, things are moving on apace and that means lots of new faces. We're delighted to welcome three new members to the team: Richard Brownsdon who arrives as Events Co-ordinator, Sheena Pentin who comes in as Business Development Manager and Tom Cropper who'll be responsible for all written copy. | Beat the waste challenge
| Myoo Create has launched a fantastic competition for startups who demonstrate a clear commitment to reducing waste. Sponsored by Adventure Ecology, The Beat Waste Startup Challenge offers prizes of $25,000 to businesses and social enterprises that can reduce or eliminate waste. The competition is specifically aimed at startups and early stage ventures that need investment in order to grow. To qualify, a business must have received no more than $200,000 in revenue, income or funding up until 31st December 2009. Myoo is a community dedicated to environmental and social innovation. With this exciting competition they hope to offer a real incentive to improve environmental sustainability in the business environment. |
