Full steam ahead for RISE and the Social Enterprise Mark Company

Exeter-based RISE has a new Chief Executive to lead it into the future.

RISE, the voice for South West social enterprises, is pleased to announce that Julie Harris will act as Chief Executive for RISE in the coming year. This follows the decision by the national Social Enterprise Mark Company to appoint Lucy Findlay as its full-time Managing Director and to progress strongly with the ambitions for the Mark.

Calling all Devon’s voluntary organisations and community groups

The Devon Consortium is conducting a survey called the “Third Sector Baseline Survey”. The more groups who fill it in, the more powerful it will be. It will only take a few minutes of your time. The results will help Devon’s VCS be more influential. It will make the case for the support local groups need.

Help research by participating in an Entrepreneurial Psychology study

Plymouth University student Jennifer Camaradou is undertaking a research project on the psychology of entrepreneurship and needs participants for the study, which will investigate thoughts on entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial behaviour. The rationale of Jennifer's study is to better understand the psychological aspects of the process of becoming entrepreneurial in relation to the self, identification of opportunities and perceptions of personality characteristics.

The Big Issue Awarded the Social Enterprise Mark

The Big Issue
The Big Issue has been awarded the Social Enterprise Mark and has begun displaying it on the magazine’s front cover. One of the most high-profile social enterprises to be awarded the Mark so far, The Big Issue joins over 160 other businesses including The Eden Project, Hill Holt Wood, GLL and HCT Group, in promoting the Mark to clearly display to their customers that they are working for people and planet.

Recognising the role of the Mark in endorsing The Big Issue’s social enterprise principles and increasing awareness of social enterprise among consumers, John Bird was behind the Mark from day one and announced his intention to apply for the Mark at its launch in February.

Real Growers Invites Visitors to Get a Taste for Growing – Open Day, 19 June

Real Growers
Real Growers, an exciting training programme which offers local people the opportunity to learn new skills in food production and sustainable living, will be holding an Open Day on Saturday 19 June at their food production site at Plan-it Earth in Sancreed, near Penzance.

The local community is invited to head up to the site and take a look around, find out what Real Growers is all about and even sample and buy some of the produce and plants grown by the Real Growers trainees.
