Run by Co-operatives UK, the national body for co-operative organisations in the UK, the campaign hopes to encourage consumers to embrace the alternative model and "buy co-operatively, bank co-operatively, invest co-operatively and work co-operatively". A Revolutionary Way to Pay for Public Services - Slashing the cost without slashing the service A new report to explore the use of Social Impact Bonds (SIBs) in tackling social problems has been published this week. The report was authored by Dr Michael Moynagh, Co-Director of the Tomorrow Project which studies the future of people's lives, and is part of a project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council. It describes how SIBs could help the new government reduce the cost of public services without compromising their quality. SIBs work by identifying savings government can make from addressing social problems at their roots. Once these savings are identified, capital is raised from private investors to pay for action that will prevent social problems before they arise. Investors receive a portion of the savings in government spending that result, while the government keeps the rest. To find out more about the Tomorrow Project visit the website where a full electronic copy of the report can also be found. The Tomorrow Project is also working with the Social Enterprise Coalition on a knowledge management research project.
