What is Social Entrepreneurship?

Statement of Faith
You can find other "Market with Meaning" but you definitely want to see "Profit with Purpose".
I personally "Believe in Kingdom Transformation" because I know there is only ONE "Life for Significant".

News on The Edge
Welcome to the Social Edge update!

The Wall Street Journal recently published a provocative article, “The Case Against Corporate Social Responsibility.” Dr. Aneel Karnani, a professor of strategy at a US business school, wrote: “The idea that companies have a responsibility to act in the public interest and will profit from doing so is fundamentally flawed.”

The article attracted much attention. Dave Douglas, who ran a CSR group at Sun Microsystems, wrote in response that we should all “be careful of academics talking about real world corporate issues: they can be irrelevant, and in some cases even dangerous.”

Obviously, the matter is more complex than “a single combative article or a no-less-combative rebuttal can convey,” writes this week’s host Charles (Hipbone) Cameron. So tell us what you think: Is corporate social responsibility dangerous, simply irrelevant, or is it a major corporate initiative, urgently needed?

Then join Yvonne Li and the Avantage Ventures group in Thailand, where they highlight the work of charismatic social entrepreneur Mechai Viravaidya, and Kiva Fellow Tara Capsuto in Ecuador as she reflects on the role of education in microfinance.

Dr. O writes about raising money in the Amazon jungle, while in California Pamela Pavkov describes the impact Samasource will have soon on the world’s poor. That is, unless we all suffer from SMB, or Social Media Burnout, a symptom recently discovered by Untangled.

Jonathan Lewis shares his thoughts on poverty alleviation: “It is about changing human behavior, raising expectations, inspiring individual self-worth, creating hope, teaching, building coalitions, and upsetting the status quo.”
