Clearlyso Expands to India | It's exciting times here at ClearlySo as we prepare to launch a version of our existing UK platform in India. The new launch will be conducted with cooperation from Shell Foundation and will lend support to India's vibrant social business and enterprise community. The social enterprise sector in India offers tremendous promise. By providing a range of services to SBEs in India, the project has the potential to bring about exciting economic and social changes. The project is being headed up by Audrey Selian from Rianta Capital who is currently leading the search for our lead entrepreneur. |
| | Photo Finish - the ClearlySo Photography Competition
| Our new social business photography competition has been attracting interest from social businesses as far afield as Cambodia - an incredible indication of the global scale of the social enterprise community. For the businesses involved it's a great opportunity to expose themselves to a new audience. For everyone else, it's a fantastic snapshot of the wonderful work taking place across the social enterprise sector. Further details can be found here. However let's start off with a few pointers. We're looking for fun, imaginative and informative photographs that show social enterprise at its best. It could be a picture of your team, your products or perhaps an image of the people your organisation helps day in day out. As long as it catches our eye and sums up the work you do, we want to see it. To give you an example here's a great pic from Social Firms UK. The winning photo will receive a free ticket to the forthcoming Social Business Conference. Meanwhile all other entries will find a place on our online gallery dedicated to social enterprise. We'll also cherry pick the best to adorn the office walls her at ClearlySo Towers. Pictures should be sent digitally at as high a resolution as possible. Ideally we want something that can fit onto an A1 or A2 poster. However, if that's not possible, just choose the highest setting possible on your camera. To enter, or for more information, contact me by email here or call 020 7490 9527. We look forward to seeing what you come up with. |

Social Enterprise Focus
| According to data supplied by Social Finance, there are currently around 42,000 prisoners in custody in UK prisons for short term sentences. With each one costing £50,000 a year to house and reoffending rates topping 60%, this is rapidly becoming a major social and fiscal headache for the government. In this light the work done by Inside Job Productions can prove invaluable. ClearlySo spoke to Louise Brown, business development manager at IJP, to find out more about how the company works. Read more here. | Social Business Conference: Updated Speakers

Social Business Explained: Additionality
| An important aspect of international climate change policy. The term refers to a situation in which a project results in emissions reductions that are additional to those that would have taken place without the project. The Kyoto Protocol decrees that Certified Emissions Reductions (CERs) must only be issued to the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects that would not have happened without the financial incentive of a carbon credit system. The underlying logic is that carbon trading should be a tool to bring new projects into a global market, rather than reward projects that would be undertaken without the incentive. Awarding ERUs to non-additional projects would distort the carbon price and therefore undermine one of the key aims of Kyoto - to set a stable carbon price. |
