The company aims to improve the lives of 100 million individuals, starting by replacing every kerosene lantern with clean, safe and bright light.   d.light Partners with SESA and U.S. Marines to Distribute 7,000 Lights in Afghanistan We are pleased to share that d.light products will be distributed to off-grid families in Afghanistan through a partnership with Sustainable Energy Services Afghanistan (SESA) and the U.S. Marines. Afghanistan is one of the most unelectrified countries in the world, with 85 percent of the population living without access to electricity. Seven thousand families in the southern province of Helmand will be given the d.light S250, which will immediately improve their quality of life and their economic prospects. Read more about this exciting partnership through our official press release.   Donors Provide Light for 2,175 Households in East Timor through d.light's Give Light Program Image Source: Kopernik Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, d.light and our NGO partner Kopernik have raised enough money to subsidize a d.light S250 and a d.light S10 for 2,175 households in Oecusse, one of the poorest districts in East Timor. Donors have thus far contributed nearly USD78,000 for Oecusse, where less than one percent of the population has access to electricity. As a result, about 11,000 of the district's 67,000 residents can experience the benefits of solar lighting. They can immediately begin saving up to USD20 a month, which would normally be spent on kerosene, and experience improved productivity, health, and safety. Chester brings over 31 years of progressive experience in operations, procurement, material management, and supply chain management, with large multinational corporations such as Motorola, Philips, Whirlpool, and MGM. He has over 25 years of experience in logistics, purchasing, and materials control. Chester will oversee all of d.light's operations in China and manage the Shenzhen office. As d.light continues to rapidly scale, Chester's leadership will strengthen our production and supply chain management capacity, while ensuring high quality standards, to allow us to meet growing demand.   Customer Story: Martins, a Frozen Fish Shop Owner in Nigeria, Enjoys the d.light S10 Martins lives with his wife and four children in the town of Guninguna in northern Nigeria. He sells frozen fish in a shop along the town's most popular road, while his wife operates a kitchen tools outlet nearby. Because Guninguna often experiences power cuts, Martins had to use three battery-powered LED lamps for his shop. Every five days, he had to replace four batteries in each lamp, which cost him 600 Naira (about USD3.88) each time. Now Martins uses a single d.light S10 to illuminate his shop in the evening, saving him over USD15 per month. After closing his shop, he takes the light home for his family to use as a bedlight throughout the night. ‘S10 is something which lasts," Martins tells us. "Mr. Alico [his fish wholesaler] told me that if it even falls it will not break.
