Campaigning Research Programme - update and next steps

Capacitybuilders’ new £750,000 Campaigning Research Programme aims to explore ways of enabling marginalised people to make their voice heard through campaigning and advocacy.

In June, Capacitybuilders asked key individuals in the third sector to nominate organisations and campaigns that were suitable for the programme.  From a list of some 70 nominations, 49 campaigns that meet the programme’s criteria have been shortlisted and invited to apply to become participants of the programme.

In September, Capacitybuilders is meeting with shortlisted organisations to discuss their campaigns, before the selection panel makes final decisions about which 30 organisations will participate in the research programme.  To find out more about this, please visit our website.

Modernisation Fund momentum builds

100s of frontline organisations who are delivering services to those most affected by the recession have now been invited to apply for grants of up to £10,000 under Phase Two of Capacitybuilders' Modernisation Fund Grants Programme.

This second phase of the programme - Grow Stronger Together - will open for online application from Monday 14 September.

The grants will be available to bursary holders who, having gone through Phase One of the programme, are ready to take further steps toward collaboration or merger. To find out more about this, please visit our website.

Capacitybuilders' Single Equality Scheme Consultation

The National Equality Partnership has been asked to run a consultation on Capacitybuilders' Equality Scheme.  By completing a short online questionnaire, you have the opportunity to influence the shape action plan by  telling them how well you think they are doing  promoting equality and challenging discrimination. For more information about the consultation, please contact Ravi Chauhan at Voice4Change - telephone 020 7843 6124 - or Richard Davey at Capacitybuilders.  Survey responses are needed by 25 September 2009.

Communities and Local Government launch guidance on partnership working

Communities and Local Government (CLG) is pleased to report the launch of its latest publication REACH: guidance which offers information for BME voluntary and community organisations on how to build partnership working.

Focusing on the different ways that small and new organisations can work with others, it provides information about where organisations can go for advice and how they can improve the way they work.  To find out more about this and download a copy of the guidance, please visit the CLG website.

Green Alliance launch third sector climate change mapping research

The Green Alliance is currently undertaking a project to map climate change activities across the whole of the third sector. The final report will be produced and widely circulated towards the end of this year.  As well as informing the work of the Government's Third Sector Taskforce on Climate Change, it will act as a useful resource for the third sector, funders and other interested parties - identifying opportunities to increase the scale and impact of third sector climate change activities.

As part of this project people are being ainvited to complete a short questionnaire and those with more knowledge or involvement in climate change activities are also being asked to complete an activities sheet.  In addition, the Green Alliance will also interview a number of people to gain further insight into some of the barriers, opportunities and motivation surrounding current climate change activities in the sector. If you would like to get involved with this research, please download the online survey or the activities sheets today.
