Fw: Opportunities and Events

"When you do the common things in life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world." George Washington Carver

What is Social Entrepreneurship?

Statement of Faith
You can find other "Market with Meaning" but you definitely want to see "Profit with Purpose".
I personally "Believe in Kingdom Transformation" because I know there is only ONE "Life for Significant".

HELP JULIE'S WORK IN ZIMBABWE

Inline Image

Mentoring / business planning / Web / e-commerce / marketing skills needed!
Julie Hagan is a TBN Member working with 50 women in Zimbabwe, knitting beautifully designed animals – see www.gogo-olive.com/ . There is potential for significant scale – can you help?
Julie writes: “Gogo Olive was set up in Zimbabwe in November 2008 to give local women the opportunity to use their knitting skills to support themselves and their families. We aim to help some of the most vulnerable members in communities and currently have about 50 women involved in the project, from a local prison, two orphanages and mothers from a centre for Street Children. What we most need is mentoring and business planning help. I also would love to have someone to help with the development of the website as it is still very basic, and it could be a really good way of explaining what we do and why. Also Internet sales could be a good way to go. And I would love to develop into the marketing side - greetings cards, books, mugs etc so it would be great to have someone with graphic design / photography skills on board.”
If you can help, contact Julie at joolzhagan@hotmail.com

COME ON EXPO TO JORDAN

Inline Image

Jordan is a resource-poor country, with little agricultural land, no oil resources and scarce water. In spite of its limited natural resources and small size, Jordan hosts some 750,000 Iraqi refugees, more than 12% of the population. A relatively high proportion are Christians, who face persecution in Iraq. Including the long-standing population of Palestinians, Jordan now hosts the largest number of refugees, per capita, of any country on earth. Most Iraqi refugees are denied legal status, do not have the right to work, and struggle to obtain practical access to low cost education and heath care. TBN member Jonathan Tidd has been involved with work in Jordan via his church and would now like to bring an Expo group to Amman. The Expo will see work among refugees, meet entrepreneurs and people in leadership positions, understand the issues and opportunities, and look to support the development of financially sustainable business-based solutions. We will work with the authorities guided by our contacts in Amman.
Jordan is a country with a long and fascinating history including many Biblical references and Roman remains. The expo trip will be challenging and inspiring. There will also be an opportunity for rest and relaxation, visiting Petra, Mt Nebo and the Dead Sea.
We plan to travel in September, for one week. Cost is likely to be around £1200 including flights, food, accommodation and transport. For more information, contact Jonathan at j.tidd1@ntlworld.com

NEWS: HELPING IN HAITI

Inline Image

Basic Utility Vehicles (BUVs)
Vladimir Babkin writes: “We have 3 pending BUV orders for Haiti at the moment. This shot is from Lifeline Christian Mission on the ground. One BUV in Les Cayes began serving just a few days ago…the container was opened after the earthquake hit. God is good!” More info at www.drivebuv.org/

ToughStuff
TBN Corporate Member ToughStuff is working with Geneva Global and one of its major clients who have donated 8,000 solar kits to Haitians following the devastating earthquake. Each kit will consist of a portable solar panel, an LED lamp, mobile phone connectors and radio connectors.
In Haiti three million residents are without a light source after dark. With public utilities destroyed, the solar LED lights provide safe lighting at night, in contrast to candles and kerosene lamps which pose a severe fire risk. The people of Haiti currently also lack the means to charge cell phones – a primary means of communication with others during the emergency – and radios are a vital source of information.
