GlobeWelcome to the Spring 2011 collection of kingdom news from around the world! Read about Natalana, an inspiring woman whose status as a 5th wife markedly improved after receiving entrepreneurial training. You can also learn about a bold US contractor who announces his company works for Christ; the difference baskets make in post-war Uganda; and a church creating jobs in Bogotá.

We are also proud of our second cohort of business development students at our Business Development Center in Rwanda who will graduate soon. You can make a difference in their lives! One way is by becoming a prayer partner. We need you!

Natalana and her sonsThe Last Shall Be First

As the fifth of her husband's wives, Natalana was treated as an outcast and was left to fend for her five sons without help. She did not accept defeat. Instead, she enrolled in the adult education class offered by Five Talents and took off on an entrepreneurial venture.


Apart from becoming a successful business women and the chair-lady of the village bank, Natalana has been given charge over all the wives of her husband!

Basket-making

Basket-making in GuluGulu suffered under years of civil war, but there has been relative peace since 2007. The Transformational Business Network has started a project in Gulu, Uganda, where they help artisans make a living by producing baskets. So far a total of £1,500 has been invested into a visit to Uganda and the initial purchases of baskets.

The next goal of the project is to operate sustainably to enrich the lives of the people involved.

The Ministry of Sustainable Economic Development

Sustainable DevelopmentThe Business Professional Network (BPN) is an organization that engages in ways to encourage and support “missions through business.” One of their recent projects is with Iglesia El Encuentro, in Bogotá, Colombia, which has a successful, financially sustainable economic development program that was started with less than $10,000. The program is an outgrowth of the church’s outreach to poor communities in Southern Bogotá.

Iglesia El Encuentro began the economic development program as a response to the pressing need to create jobs for poor people in places where the church had previously initiated programs for malnourished children in the mid-1990s.

Dallas One SignDallas One Construction and Development is a Christian company that communicates its faith by hanging up fliers that indicate their work is done for Jesus.

Bart Azzarelli, president of Dallas One, says the company wants to be a good neighbor. However, the company's expressiveness when it comes to matters of faith has created controversy in Tampa, Florida, where some took offense to the message of the fliers.

At this seminar, you will receive a comprehensive overview of current trends and issues in business as mission (BAM) around the world through cutting-edge teaching on BAM, delivered by leading thinkers in the movement. You will also have the opportunity to meet and share views with a growing community of BAM professionals. Get more details here.

 

May 10-11 & 13-14:  Biblical Entrepreneurship (BE) training is back in town! BE is a comprehensive business discipleship curriculum which provides a strong mix of core business concepts and biblical principles. Courses offered include Principles of Biblical Entrepreneurship (BE I) and Practices of Biblical Entrepreneurship (BE II). NPIM’s Partners' and Teachers' Conference takes place the following week, along with BE teacher certification. Click here for details on BE.
