ClearlySo Newsletter | August 10th 2012
Dear friends,
This edition of the ClearlySo newsletter is filled with highs and lows. Do you want the good news or the bad news first?
We’ve got a case study of a heart-warming social enterprise from babies with love and a look at ethical men's fashion through the eyes of high-quality shirt retailer Arthur and Henry.
On the other hand, we caught up with Anna Burke from Eco-Actif to find out why – on Friday 13th of all days – they had to let all their staff go. Plus we reflect on one year since London was burning at the hands of rioters and the role social enterprise can play in healing the wounds.
Oh and don't forget that the early bird price of just £150 for SBC12 ends at the end of August. Get your bookings in for the social enterprise conference of the year.
Have a great weekend,
The ClearlySo Team
From babies with love
We caught up with Cecilia Crossley to discuss her new social enterprise, from babies with love. In this new short video, she explains more about her story, her motivations and how the profit from her business supports orphaned and abandoned children.

Colleen Baldwin caught up with Anna Burke from Eco-Actif – a regional subcontractor for welfare-to-work company A4e - to discuss what brought the CIC to its knees last month.
This thought piece from Jessica Holland explores the niche of ethical men's fashion, with a specific look at high-quality shirt retailer Arthur and Henry.
Euphoria may rule in London at the moment, but a year ago it was mob rule that ran the streets. In this post from the start of 2012, intern Michael Otadende provides his assessment of the riots and the role social enterprise can play.

In this article, The Telegraph assess just how green the London Olympics are. Criteria such as ‘buildings’ and ‘sponsorship’ are given a gold, silver or bronze rating – or in the case of ‘renewable energy’, are disqualified.

However 'legacy' gets awarded a gold medal. Gray writes: "If they keep to their word then the Games will just be a small part of a massive green regeneration project in East London. A derelict area around Stratford has been converted into a world-class sporting venue surrounded by parkland and with good transport links. It is expected new businesses will spring up. There is also support for young people in the area and the local community."
