Investec has been named the winner of the Community Impact category in the prestigious 2012 Business Charity Awards. The company fought off stiff competition from other big-name businesses to claim the prize for its four-year partnership with the Bromley by Bow Centre in East London. Investec has invested well over £300,000 in projects since 2008 and have pledged a further £200,000 for enterprise start-ups in the coming year. Allied with the financial support is the hands-on engagement of over 100 Investec staff members who have dedicated many hours of invaluable input. The partnership with Investec has enabled the Bromley by Bow Centre to empower local people to set up their own social businesses and provide much needed support to people with disabilities and those with long-term mental health conditions. "We are delighted to have been successful at the Business Charity Awards for our partnership with the Bromley by Bow Centre. The partnership enables Investec to engage with our local community and work with an organisation that echoes our values. This award is testament to the enthusiasm and dedication of our volunteers, and recognises that the partnership delivers meaningful benefits for our community." Alison Gardner, Investec "The Beyond Business initiative was particularly strong and produced good outcomes for the amount invested." Peter Lewis, Chief Executive of the Institute of Fundraising and one of the category judges The Bromley by Bow Centre in partnership with Investec is offering start up funding for new or emerging Social Enterprises across Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Newham as part of their Beyond Business Programme. Beyond Business is now looking for new or emerging Social Enterprises to submit their ideas for the next round of the programme before the deadline on the 29th June 2012. "I offer young people opportunities, provide training and then give them a role. I grew up in East London and came from a disadvantaged background. I want to enable people to reach their true potential. If it hadn't been for Beyond Business without a doubt I wouldn't have my own business" Munsur Ali, Director Spotlight UK and Epic Stages You can now follow Rob Trimble, CEO of the Bromley by Bow Centre, on Twitter.
