Impact Investing is a core theme at this year's SOCAP12:Making Meaning Matter event. We're proud that it's brought to you in partnership with Omidyar Network. Watch Omidyar Network's Matt Bannick speak during Tuesday's main stage plenary session, Making Meaning Matter through New Strategies for Impact at 5pm either on-site or via livestream.

OMIDYAR NETWORK PUBLISHES "PRIMING THE PUMP FOR IMPACT INVESTING" IN PARTNERSHIP WITH STANFORD SOCIAL INNOVATION REVIEW
Priming the Pump

Five years after the term ‘impact investing’ was coined, Omidyar Network has developed a series of six articles that highlight key issues and opportunities for the industry. Presented in partnership with Stanford Social Innovation Review, the online series, “Priming the Pump for Impact Investing”, began September 25 and extends through October 2. Omidyar Network makes the case for a fundamental shift from a firm-based to a sector-based approach to impact investing. By making earlier stage investments, re-evaluating the role of subsidies and policies, and investing across the financial returns continuum, we believe that impact investors can spark, nurture and scale entire new sectors for positive social impact.

Be part of the dialogue.

A MESSAGE FROM OMIDYAR NETWORK

OMIDYAR NETWORK2012 marks five years since the term ‘impact investing’ was coined. In this time the sector has generated tremendous interest and has attracted capital from diverse sources. What can we do in the next five years to create sustained impact? Omidyar Network is excited to partner with the Impact Investing Track at SOCAP 2012 to facilitate this important conversation. By reflecting on trends that have emerged and lessons learned, we hope to inspire greater dialogue about the potential that lies ahead and the steps needed to ensure the most constructive outcomes. We encourage you to engage with the conversations and the speakers, share your own ideas about impact investing and join us in championing the industry’s evolution.

    Date: 4th October
    Location: Harrow, London

Many organisations fail to access funding and support because they are unable to demonstrate that they have a clear understanding and control over what the organisation does and how it does it. Governance is a term used to demonstrate that the management has policies and procedures in place that ensures that the organisation’s vision and strategy are delivered and that it is done in the most effective and efficient way. Many organisations also find finance a particular challenge. However without sufficient understanding and control over finances and financial information in place the organisation is unlikely to survive.

This practical one-day workshop will use examples, discussion and exercises to create a good understanding of governance and finance, their importance and how to ensure that your procedures and policies are fit for purpose. The aim of the workshop is to support attendees to develop and be able to demonstrate sound management principles in order to secure funding and support, and create a healthy and robust organisation.

    Workshop content

    • What is governance?
    • The practice rather than the theory
    • Why it is important to your organisation
    • How to use good governance to improve stakeholder engagement and funding
    • Getting to grips with numbers
    • How to create and manage budgets
    • Using financial information as a management tool

Negotiating is something we all do; it is fundamental to business success. Yet very few of us have ever had any training and tend to learn the hard way, giving cash away needlessly.
Learn the rules and techniques of successful negotiators by attending this high intensity compressed programme that will
    • Define negotiating and suggest when to use it
    • Provide insights into the psychology of negotiating
    • Provide the basic rules and strategies – the dos and don'ts
    • Provide the opportunity to practice
The course has evolved over a period of 25 years of international business and this abridged version focuses on individual negotiating.
Red Ochre have a training session on negotiation skills listed on the BitC ARC website and if enough organisations register an interest by voting we will run the course.
Click here for further details and vote for the course.
